Bank holiday weekends can be heavy. That extra day seems to put everyone in holiday mode and more often than not you end up drinking like you're in Ibiza and eating like it's Christmas. On the run up to a bank holiday a lot of people have it in mind that they will spend it productively: do that spring clean that they've been putting off, or get those applications out that they didn't do in the week, even cracking on at the gym to make up for the times they just couldn't be assed to go. For me, this didn't happen, but that's ok.
Here comes the real talk. It's okay to have a YOU day. I know a lot of morning people, in fact the majority of my friends are complete 'get-up-and-go'ers', and a lot of the time I wish I was like that. However when you're feeling like a lazy day, allow it. Sleeping in is not a sin. Sometimes your body needs those extra few hours – especially if you've had a couple of late nights. And spending an entire day watching movies is not something to feel guilty about. Rest is good for you, especially if you work long hours and commute. Sometimes you need that day that you had put aside to be productive and tackle all your life admin and instead just use it to bury yourself in a couple layers of blankets and stream however many sad romantic movies you want. See exhibit 1: my nest.

I am a pioneer for the 'fuck it' thought process and the 'oh well' attitude. Lazy days are good for you. Trust me. There is something totally cathartic about a day filled with escapism. Put down the social media, switch off your phone, close the curtains, light the candles and flick the kettle on. With tea as your company, switch off real life and indulge in too-good-to-be-true heroes and happy endings.

Happy Bank Holiday Monday.
